Lucknow – Amidst the ongoing controversy over the directives issued by the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh mandating eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display names and addresses of their owners, and the subsequent stay by the Supreme Court, UP state minister (independent charge) for the Department of Ayush, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Dayashankar Mishra, reiterated on Tuesday that the government plans to remain firm on its stand.
Firm Government Stance
“The government is firm on its order in this regard,” Mishra stated while speaking to media persons in Sangam city. He was visiting the site to pay tribute to freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad, who laid down his life fighting the British during the freedom struggle.
Supreme Court Hearing
Refusing to comment on the Supreme Court hearing the issue, the minister acknowledged that the Apex court has taken cognizance of the matter and he would refrain from commenting until the court delivers its judgment. However, he emphasized that the government’s stance would not waver despite the ongoing judicial process.
Crackdown on Halal-Certified Products
Mishra also mentioned that the action against the sale of Halal-certified products would continue unabated. “The government wants the sale of such products to be strictly prohibited, and therefore no such items will be allowed to be sold in the state. The government issues no certification in this regard for food products from its side, and some people were doing so on their own, which has been stopped by the government,” he said, condemning such acts as wrong.
Background of the Controversy
The controversy began with the directive requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names and addresses of their owners. This move, along with the crackdown on Halal-certified products, has sparked debates and legal challenges, culminating in the Supreme Court’s involvement. The government’s firm stance reflects its commitment to the directives despite the legal and public scrutiny.
