Gurgaon – Ten days after Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directed the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to resolve the city’s sanitation issues within a week, the streets remain littered with garbage. Despite various measures announced and efforts made, the situation on the ground shows little improvement.
Ongoing Sanitation Issues
The Chief Minister is set to visit several locations in the city on Sunday to assess the current conditions. The directive for a swift cleanup came during a grievance redressal meeting held on June 27, where the CM addressed numerous complaints from residents regarding the persistent garbage problem.
Following the CM’s directive, the Divisional Commissioner of Gurgaon took charge and held several meetings to outline corrective measures. These included rewarding clean municipal wards and threatening to file FIRs against agencies failing to remove construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Additionally, MCG issued a notice to the agency responsible for not providing enough vehicles to transport garbage to Bandhwari.
Residents’ Frustrations
Despite these initiatives, the city continues to struggle with heaps of garbage visible across various sectors, and door-to-door garbage collection remains inconsistent. Residents have expressed their frustration over the lack of progress.
“There is only noise but no action. We have been hearing about promises to improve the cleanliness situation, but the city has not witnessed the desired change in garbage management,” said Suresh Yadav, a resident of Sector 47.
The unclean surroundings not only create an unpleasant environment but also pose significant health risks, especially during the monsoon season when the risk of water-borne diseases increases. “The failure to properly dispose of waste not only creates an unpleasant environment but also poses serious health risks,” emphasized Radhika Sharma, a resident of DLF-1.
Calls for Immediate Action
Residents are calling for a comprehensive plan that includes regular garbage collection, proper waste disposal, and strict enforcement of anti-littering rules. They hope that the Chief Minister’s intervention will lead to stronger actions against those responsible for the poor waste management and provide necessary support to MCG to improve the situation.
“The administration must take concrete steps to ensure that the city is cleaned up and that a sustainable waste management system is put in place to prevent such issues in the future,” urged another resident.
Conclusion
As the city awaits the Chief Minister’s visit, the focus remains on finding a lasting solution to the garbage crisis. The residents of Gurgaon are hopeful that their pleas for a cleaner city will finally be addressed with effective and immediate action.
