New Delhi, India (Sarhind Times) – The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the joint CSIR-UGC-NET examination, originally scheduled between Tuesday and Thursday, due to a significant paper leak controversy. The postponement was announced through a circular citing “unavoidable circumstances as well as logistic issues.”

Examination Postponed

In an unexpected turn of events, the NTA announced the postponement of the UGC-NET exam, leading to widespread discontent among the student community. The revised schedule for the examination will be announced later on the official website. The exam, which is critical for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship (LS) or Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges, was set to take place this week.

Integrity Compromised

The Ministry of Education canceled the UGC-NET exam on Wednesday, just a day after it was held, citing that the “integrity of the exam may have been compromised.” The cancellation followed inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs indicated potential breaches in the examination process, prompting immediate action from the authorities.

Official Statement

“On 19th June, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination. These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” stated the Ministry of Education in an official release.

Response from the Education Minister

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the growing concerns and criticisms, especially regarding the irregularities in the NEET and the UGC-NET exam. He announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. Upon receiving information from the cyber crime team about the questions being circulated on the darknet, the UGC chairman conducted a tally with the original paper, leading to the decision to involve the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and cancel the exam to maintain its integrity.

Student Reactions

The cancellation of the UGC-NET examination has sparked widespread discontent among students, many of whom have expressed frustration and anger over the irregularities in the exam conducted by the NTA. The incident has raised serious questions about the examination process and the measures in place to prevent such breaches.

Looking Ahead

The NTA has assured that the revised schedule for the UGC-NET exam will be announced soon, and steps are being taken to ensure that the integrity of future examinations remains intact. The education sector and students alike are now looking to the authorities to implement stringent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
