Gurgaon, 10 July 2024 – Tragedy struck Gurgaon on Monday as two separate accidents claimed the lives of a Class 12 student and a 62-year-old man. The first incident involved a teenager who lost control of his car on the Atul Kataria Chowk flyover, while the second saw an elderly man succumb to injuries after an autorickshaw overturned at Agarwal Chowk.

At approximately 11.15 am, a 17-year-old student was driving his father’s Hyundai i10 from their home in Sector 14 to attend a tuition class in Udyog Vihar. According to Inspector Anil Kumar, the teenager lost control of the speeding car as he reached the Atul Kataria Chowk flyover. The car crashed into a divider, flew into the air, and landed on the opposite side of the road. Passersby alerted the police, who promptly arrived at the scene and transported the critically injured teenager to Civil Hospital in Sector 10. Sadly, he was declared dead on arrival.

The teenager’s father, Manish Sharma, informed the police that his son had taken the vehicle without his knowledge. An official stated, “The teenager’s family did not raise any suspicion about his death. No case has been registered.”

In a separate incident, 62-year-old Dinesh Chand from Rajiv Nagar lost his life when the autorickshaw he was traveling in overturned at Agarwal Chowk on Sunday. Dinesh was traveling with a woman passenger when the accident occurred. The autorickshaw driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

SI Harikishan reported, “Passersby rushed the two passengers to Civil Hospital, where Dinesh was declared dead.” Dinesh’s wife, Rajdulari, filed a missing person complaint at Gurgaon City Police Station when her husband, who was expected home late on Sunday, did not arrive by Monday morning.

Rajdulari identified her husband’s body at the morgue. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections. Dinesh had reportedly gone to his village in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh a few days prior and had not returned until the tragic incident.

These incidents serve as a grim reminder of the unpredictability of road travel and the importance of adhering to safety measures. The Gurgaon community mourns the loss of both victims as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding these unfortunate accidents.
