Gurugram – A tragic incident at a construction site in Block-A of DLF Phase-I, Gurugram, claimed the life of a 50-year-old lead mason, Dhuram. The accident occurred when a large mound of soil collapsed on him while he was working in the basement of a multi-storey residential house being constructed for a Dubai-based businessman.
Details of the Incident
Dhuram, a native of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was residing in Sector-42, Gurugram, with his family. The incident took place around 11 am on Monday. Fellow workers at the site immediately alerted the contractor and the police control room, prompting an emergency response.
Inspector Sunil Kumar, station house officer of DLF Phase-I police station, stated that a nearby heavy earth mover (JCB) was used to remove the soil. “It took almost half an hour to remove the debris and reach the victim,” Kumar said. By the time Dhuram was pulled out, he was unresponsive and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Circumstances Leading to the Collapse
Investigators revealed that the site had undergone extensive digging work to a depth of at least 15 feet. The contractor had kept the soil along the plot’s edge, and due to recent rain, the heap became wet and unstable, causing it to collapse and bury Dhuram several feet below.
Family’s Response and Legal Action
The victim’s family has not pressed charges against the contractor. Dhuram’s 19-year-old son, Ramesh Kumar, submitted a written statement ruling out any foul play in his father’s death. An inquiry under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 has been launched to investigate the case further.
Dhuram is survived by his wife, two daughters, and three sons.
