Gandhinagar – In a tragic turn of events, the estranged wife of a Gujarat cadre IAS officer died by suicide in Gandhinagar on July 21. The woman, originally from Tamil Nadu, had allegedly eloped with a gangster nine months ago. She returned to her husband’s residence in the city on Saturday but was denied entry, as per police reports.

Incident Details

According to sources, the IAS officer had instructed his domestic staff not to allow his wife into the house. The woman, who was accused in a child abduction case, attempted suicide in a garden across the road from her husband’s official residence. She was immediately admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where she passed away the following day.

Background and Circumstances

The couple had separated in 2023 and were heading for a divorce, as stated by the IAS officer’s advocate. The woman had previously eloped with a notorious gangster known as ‘Maharaja High Court’ in Tamil Nadu. Her name had surfaced in connection with a kidnapping case involving a minor, alongside the gangster and his aide. Police suspect she returned to her husband’s home to evade arrest by the Tamil Nadu police.

Final Letter and Investigation

Before her death, the woman left a letter addressed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, detailing her “ordeal and anguish.” In the letter, she claimed to have been trapped by the gangster and entangled in two criminal cases for which he was the prime accused. She described her husband as a noble man who took care of their children in her absence.

An unnamed police officer revealed that while the case appears to be a suicide, an accidental death report has been filed at the Gandhinagar Sector-21 police station. The officer added that the investigation would look into whether she had arrived with poison and if her husband was present during her arrival.

Ongoing Investigation

The woman’s body has been kept in a cold room in Gandhinagar, awaiting her family’s arrival from Tamil Nadu to complete formalities and take her body. The local police have yet to communicate with the Madurai police, where she is reportedly wanted, due to a lack of communication from them.
