Three Arrested for Robbing Motorcycle-Taxi Rider in Gurugram

Gurugram, July 26, 2024 – Three individuals were arrested for allegedly robbing a motorcycle-taxi rider of his cellphone and bike after hailing his services through an app in Sector 47. The arrested suspects, identified as Rohit Kumar alias Sonu, Rakesh Kumar, and Karan, are residents of Panna, Madhya Pradesh, and were living in rented accommodation in Sector-5.

Incident Details: The robbery took place on July 21 around 4:30 PM when the victim, 18-year-old Suraj Kumar, received a booking to pick up a passenger from Sector 47. Upon reaching the location, one of the suspects waved at him to stop. Two other suspects then appeared, assaulted Kumar after he removed his helmet, and snatched his mobile phone. They also took his motorcycle and fled the scene.

Police Response: Sandeep Kumar, the public relations officer of Gurugram police, stated that Kumar sought help from commuters to alert the police control room. An emergency response vehicle soon arrived to assist him. The Sector 40 crime branch team traced the suspects to the Marble Market in Sector-34, leading to their arrest on Wednesday night. The stolen phone was recovered, but the motorcycle is still missing.

Legal Action: An FIR was registered against the suspects under Section 309 (4) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Gurugram Sadar police station on July 21. The trio had no prior criminal records.
