Introduction: Pre-Dawn Operation Uncovers Chilling Political Plot
In a major breakthrough, the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) thwarted a suspected assassination plot against a Congress MLA in an intelligence-led operation early Wednesday.
Four suspects, allegedly linked to gangster Raju Godara, were arrested from different parts of Gurugram and adjoining districts, averting what officials described as a “politically motivated criminal conspiracy” orchestrated through interstate gang networks.
The operation has once again spotlighted the deepening nexus between organised crime and politics in Haryana’s rapidly urbanising districts, and the growing challenge of curbing criminal syndicates that continue to operate despite multiple crackdowns.
The Operation: A Race Against Time
According to senior STF officials, the arrests were made following specific intelligence inputs suggesting that members of the Raju Godara gang had been assigned to “eliminate or intimidate” a serving Congress legislator.
Acting swiftly, the STF’s counter-intelligence wing tracked the suspects for several days before executing a coordinated raid between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM at multiple locations in Gurugram, including Sector 10, Palam Vihar, and Farrukhnagar.
STF SP Sandeep Dhankhar confirmed the development, stating:
“Four suspects have been detained and booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act. Country-made pistols, mobile phones, and a motorbike with fake registration plates were recovered. Initial investigation indicates a plot to target a political leader. We are verifying financial and communication trails to trace the masterminds.”
Sources revealed that the arrested men were allegedly paid advances through hawala routes and digital wallets by handlers operating from Rajasthan and Delhi.
Who Is Raju Godara? The Gang’s Shadow Looms Large
Raju Godara, a notorious gangster from Hisar, is believed to be operating from outside the state—possibly from a foreign location. His network reportedly spans Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Delhi NCR, with links to other infamous crime figures involved in extortion, land-grabbing, and contract killings.
The Godara gang, police sources say, has been actively recruiting unemployed youth and former bouncers from NCR regions, offering them money for quick operations and intimidation contracts.
“The gang uses social media and encrypted messaging to recruit, coordinate, and monitor local modules,” said a senior STF official. “They operate like a corporate structure—financier, handler, executor.”
Recovered Evidence: The Digital and Forensic Trail
During the operation, the STF seized:
- Two country-made pistols with live cartridges
- One motorbike with a fake Haryana registration number
- Five mobile phones containing encrypted chats and transaction details
- A small cash stash believed to be advance payment for the “job”
Investigators are currently analysing call detail records (CDRs) and financial trails, including UPI and crypto transfers, to establish links with the handler network.
Cyber experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, have been roped in to retrieve deleted files and recover GPS histories from seized devices.
“Digital forensics will be critical to prove conspiracy under IPC Section 120B and Arms Act violations,” said Advocate Rajeev Mehta, a legal analyst familiar with such cases. “The prosecution must link evidence to intent and funding sources for a watertight case.”
Political Shockwaves: Congress Demands Stronger Security
The Congress party reacted sharply, terming the plot “an alarming escalation of gangster-political nexus.”
Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan demanded an independent probe, stating:
“This isn’t just about one MLA—it’s about the safety of elected representatives and the credibility of governance. Organised crime has grown bold under political protection.”
Party workers gathered outside the MLA’s residence, demanding Z+ category security cover for him and other at-risk legislators.
A senior Congress leader told Sarhind Times:
“We had been receiving subtle threats over the past month linked to land and property disputes. This arrest confirms our worst fears.”
The Broader Crime Network in NCR
This incident underscores the spread of organised crime networks across the NCR’s peripheries—particularly Gurugram, Jhajjar, and Rewari—where rapid urbanisation has opened new avenues for extortion and property-related conflicts.
Police records indicate that several gangs, including those of Lawrence Bishnoi, Bambiha, and Godara, have splinter modules in Haryana.
Their operations often overlap through shared logistics, illegal arms suppliers, and cross-border funding networks.
Criminologist Dr. Neeraj Kaushik notes:
“Modern crime syndicates function like decentralised startups—local operatives, freelance hitmen, and handlers in different states. Digital communication tools have made cross-border coordination effortless.”
Law Enforcement Response: STF’s Growing Role
The Haryana STF, formed in 2018, has emerged as the state’s principal agency for tackling high-profile criminal conspiracies, gangster networks, and arms trafficking.
Its recent successes include:
- The neutralisation of gangster Sandeep Gadoli case follow-ups
- The arrest of multiple members from the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs
- Recovery of illegal arms caches from Gurugram’s outskirts
Officials say that the current operation is part of a wider crackdown on interstate gangs using Gurugram as a “safe corridor” between Delhi and Rajasthan.
“The goal is to dismantle financial and arms supply chains, not just arrest shooters,” said SP Dhankhar. “We are coordinating with Delhi Police, Rajasthan Police, and central intelligence agencies.”
Legal Proceedings: The Path Ahead
The four accused are expected to be produced before a local court under stringent sections of:
- IPC 120B (Criminal Conspiracy)
- IPC 506 (Criminal Intimidation)
- Section 25 of the Arms Act
The STF has requested 14-day police remand for interrogation and to identify financiers, arms suppliers, and higher-level conspirators.
Legal experts emphasise that timely filing of the chargesheet and digital evidence certification will be pivotal for conviction.
“Courts now rely heavily on digital forensics, so chain-of-custody documentation is non-negotiable,” said Advocate Neha Dahiya, an expert in criminal law.
Security Reinforced for Political Figures
Following the arrests, district police have enhanced security for key political figures across Haryana. Intelligence units are also reviewing existing threat perceptions, particularly for MLAs involved in property or industrial disputes.
An officer from Gurugram Police said:
“Political representatives often receive threats related to local power tussles or land deals. Every input is being verified for preventive measures.”
The Home Department is also considering installation of GPS trackers on official security vehicles to improve response times in case of emergencies.
Public Reaction: A Growing Fear of Gangs
Residents across Gurugram expressed concern over the city’s increasing exposure to organised crime.
With recurring incidents of shootouts, extortion calls, and gang-related arrests, locals feel that urban safety is eroding.
Poonam Singh, a resident of Palam Vihar, said:
“We moved to Gurugram for safety and opportunities. Now every week there’s news of gang arrests or attacks. We need stronger policing and community vigilance.”
RWAs have called for more night patrolling, CCTV integration, and public alert systems through mobile apps.
A Pattern of Power, Money, and Crime
Analysts point to a disturbing pattern where property disputes, political rivalries, and gang influence intersect.
Gangs often act as enforcers-for-hire in land deals, while politicians become both targets and beneficiaries of their activities.
“Crime syndicates thrive in the vacuum between law and politics,” said Professor Arvind Chauhan, a sociologist. “Until political funding and local power ecosystems are made transparent, such plots will continue to emerge.”
Conclusion: A Wake-Up Call for Haryana’s Law Machinery
The foiled plot against a Congress MLA serves as a critical warning for Haryana’s law enforcement agencies.
It highlights not only the resilience of organised crime but also the vulnerability of democratic representatives in a climate where money, muscle, and politics often overlap.
As the STF intensifies its investigation, all eyes will be on whether this operation leads to a larger crackdown on gang networks—or remains just another headline in Haryana’s long battle against organised crime.
For now, the message from Gurugram’s security corridors is clear: the war against criminal syndicates is far from over.
