Gurgaon, July 3, 2024 — A new satellite-based toll collection system is set to replace the Kherki Daula toll plaza within the next two months, according to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. This announcement was made during a meeting with Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Tuesday, where various infrastructure projects in Gurgaon and Rewari were discussed.
New Toll Collection System
The innovative toll collection system will automatically deduct toll charges directly from the bank accounts of commuters based on the distance traveled. This system aims to streamline toll collection and reduce congestion at toll plazas.
Elevated Road Proposal
MP Rao Inderjit Singh emphasized the need for an elevated road to alleviate congestion from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bharadwaj Chowk. However, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials highlighted technical challenges due to the metro corridor along the route. Originally, NHAI planned to widen the stretch, but following the MP’s proposal, the project was put on hold. Now, NHAI is considering a hybrid solution involving elevated sections where necessary and widening the road to six lanes elsewhere. Haryana and NHAI officials will soon meet to finalize the blueprint.
Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari Highway
Inderjit also addressed delays in completing the Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari national highway. NHAI officials assured that the highway, which has faced multiple delays, will be operational by October. This new highway is expected to ease traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway by 30% and reduce travel distance by 15 kilometers for commuters between Gurgaon, Delhi, Rewari, and Narnaul.
Additional Infrastructure Projects
Gadkari instructed NHAI officials to expedite the construction of several key infrastructure projects, including:
- A flyover at Bilaspur Chowk
- Underpasses at Rathivas Mod, Salhawas Mod, and Pachgaon Chowk
- Repairing existing foot overbridges and constructing a dozen new ones on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway
- A new road connecting Vasant Kunj’s Nelson Mandela Road and Faridabad Road to ease traffic congestion near the Gurgaon-Delhi border
Environmental Considerations
MP Inderjit Singh emphasized the use of environmentally safe construction techniques to ensure the sustainability of these projects. The CM’s principal secretary V Umashankar and Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav were also present at the meeting, indicating the high level of coordination and commitment to improving the region’s infrastructure.
