GURGAON: Residents of Sector 57 are grappling with a growing sanitation crisis due to irregular garbage collection over the past two weeks. Despite multiple complaints to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), the situation remains unresolved, with overflowing bins and scattered waste becoming a common sight across the area. The resulting unsanitary conditions have sparked serious concerns about public health and the efficiency of MCG’s waste management efforts.
The crisis began when a new agency was appointed for waste management in Sector 57. However, shortly after, the contract was transferred to another agency, which residents say has only worsened the service. Household waste was left uncollected for six consecutive days, leading to widespread frustration among the community.
“This vendor has a track record of poor service and was engaged in garbage collection in the past too. We had to file complaints against the vendor earlier too. Despite 200 petitioners signing the complaint, work has again been given to the firm. The vendor has failed to adhere to the schedule. Even when staffers show up, bins aren’t carried properly, spilling trash and littering all over. Plus, there is no communication regarding the delays. It is clear that the decision to rehire this agency was not made by considering all interests,” said Roshan Lal Yadav, president of the sector’s Residents Welfare Association (RWA).
The residents are now demanding immediate action from the authorities to address the sanitation issues and prevent any further health risks.
