Estimated read time 2 min read

Bhubaneswar – The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling called for the arrest of BJD President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik. The demand came in the wake of allegations of indiscipline during Governor Raghubar Das’ address in the House on Monday.

Allegations of Indiscipline

Minister Mahaling accused Patnaik of breaching House rules, suggesting that his actions warranted arrest. “He needs to be arrested for the alleged indiscipline,” Mahaling asserted. This statement, however, was met with strong opposition from the BJD.

BJD’s Response

Reacting to Mahaling’s statement, BJD leader Arun Kumar Sahoo criticized the BJP’s handling of the situation, stating, “What he referred to shows his lack of experience. I have never seen anyone being arrested in the history of Vidhan Sabha proceedings.”

House Adjourned Amid Ruckus

Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House till 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday after opposition members continued to create a ruckus over an alleged assault on an assistant section officer by the son of Governor Das. BJD and Congress MLAs took to the Well of the House, engaging in sloganeering and demanding action against the Governor’s son.

Ongoing Tensions

As the House proceedings resumed at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the atmosphere remained tense with opposition members pressing their demands and the assembly hall echoing with loud protests.
