Retired Army Jawan Dies by Suicide in Gurgaon, Family Cites Depression Following Accident

In a tragic incident, a retired Army jawan, Jagan Singh (62), died by suicide at his brother’s house in Bandhwari, Gurgaon, on Wednesday evening. Singh, who had been battling depression since a road accident six months ago, reportedly shot himself in the head with his licensed revolver.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, Singh had been living with his family in Dabua Colony, Faridabad, after retiring from the Army 24 years ago as a havildar. On Wednesday, around 3 PM, Singh visited his younger brother Sukhpal’s house in Bandhwari. Shortly after arriving, he went to the courtyard and tragically took his own life by shooting himself in the head.

Inspector Sunil Kumar of DLF-1 police station stated, “His brother and other family members heard the gunshot and rushed to the courtyard, where they found him with a bleeding injury to his head.” Singh was immediately taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 10, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Mental Distress Following Accident

The family revealed that Singh had been suffering from severe mental distress following a head injury he sustained in a road accident in Faridabad six months ago. His condition reportedly worsened over time, leading to depression. The police seized the licensed revolver from the scene.

No Case Registered

The police have recorded the statements of Singh’s family members. Given the circumstances, no case has been registered, and the incident has been classified as a suicide. The family is mourning the loss of Singh, who had served the country with dedication before retiring to civilian life.
