Pune, July 12, 2024 — The Pune Police have announced plans to take legal action against probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar for unauthorized use of a red and blue beacon and a VIP number plate on her private Audi car. Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil confirmed the violation of traffic rules under the Motor Vehicle Act, stating, “We will take action as per the law.”

Traffic Violations and Investigation

Khedkar’s Audi, registered under her mother’s name, has accumulated challans worth Rs 26,500 for 21 traffic violations. The violations came to light during an investigation initiated after complaints about her conduct during her probation at the Pune district collectorate.

When police officers visited Khedkar’s residence, as listed in the car documents, they found the property rented out to tenants. A senior police official stated that a thorough inquiry would be conducted to address the unauthorized placement of the red-blue beacon and a ‘Maharashtra Shasan’ nameplate on her private vehicle.

Transfer and Misconduct Allegations

Khedkar, a 34-year-old probationary IAS officer, was recently transferred from Pune to Washim following allegations of misuse of power. Her WhatsApp chat with an official at the collectorate revealed demands for a separate office, car, and house before joining as Assistant Collector in Pune.

Fake Certificate Allegations

Adding to the controversy, allegations emerged that Khedkar submitted fake disability and Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to clear the civil service exams. These allegations have drawn national attention, raising questions about the integrity of the civil service selection process.

Official Statements and Future Actions

Additional Commissioner Patil emphasized that using a siren on a private vehicle is a traffic violation. He assured that appropriate action would be taken. Meanwhile, a senior police official quoted by PTI confirmed that an inquiry would be conducted into the misuse of the beacon light and the official nameplate.

Conclusion

The case of Puja Khedkar highlights significant issues regarding the conduct and accountability of public servants. As investigations continue, the outcomes will likely impact public perceptions of the civil service and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
