Gurgaon, July 5, 2024 – In an effort to streamline property tax data management, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has announced new incentives for Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and society managements. RWAs or society managements that achieve 100% self-certification of properties in their colony or sector will receive additional development funds of ₹5 lakh. Furthermore, any RWA representative or individual assisting in this process will be rewarded with an incentive of ₹10 per property ID.
New Incentive Programme
The initiative, announced by MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar during a review meeting on Tuesday, aims to encourage accurate and comprehensive property tax data management. Bangar has directed zonal taxation officers to communicate the details of this new incentive programme to RWA representatives and society managers.
“Corrections to property data, such as the owner’s name and mobile number, should be made on the spot during property tax settlement camps,” Bangar emphasized.
Background and Implementation
Previously, the MCG mandated self-certification of property tax data for property owners as a prerequisite for executing sale, purchase, lease, and rental registrations at the revenue department office. This move is part of ongoing efforts to improve the accuracy and efficiency of property tax records.
Bangar stressed the importance of resolving objections efficiently, stating that the number of unresolved objections should not exceed 750. He instructed officials to ensure that objections are not rejected or reverted without valid reasons. Joint commissioners will conduct zone-wise investigations, and any employee found rejecting files without valid reasons will face disciplinary action.
Incentives and Expected Outcomes
The incentive of ₹5 lakh for RWAs achieving full self-certification is expected to motivate active participation and cooperation from residential communities. The additional ₹10 per property ID incentive for individuals assisting in this process further ensures that there are adequate resources and encouragement for accurate data submission.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the management of property tax data, thereby improving governance and service delivery in Gurugram. The MCG hopes that these measures will lead to more efficient and transparent property tax administration.
Public Opinion and Next Steps
Residents have shown mixed reactions to the new incentives, with some praising the move for its potential to improve data accuracy, while others express concerns about the implementation process. The MCG will closely monitor the progress of this initiative and make adjustments as necessary to ensure its success.
