Gurgaon – The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has designated five specific sites for the dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. These sites are Babupur, Basai, Baliyawas, Daultabad, and the C&D waste processing plant in Basai. The MCG has issued a stern warning that dumping construction waste at any sites other than these will result in severe consequences.
Strict Measures for Non-Compliance
MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Banger emphasized the importance of adhering to these designated sites. “Residents must ensure that their construction waste is transported to the designated sites. Dumping construction waste at unauthorized locations is a punishable offense. Vehicles caught dumping waste at non-designated sites will be confiscated, penalties will be imposed, and FIRs will be registered against the offenders,” he stated.
Efforts to Clean Up the City
Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Commissioner and Secretary Vikas Gupta recently held a meeting directing MCG officials to remove C&D waste from roadsides and open spaces within the next 15 to 20 days. He specifically instructed the officers to clean up construction waste from the Gurgaon-Faridabad road and Sector 29. Gupta also announced round-the-clock patrolling to prevent unauthorized dumping.
C&D Waste Management Challenges
The MCG recently withdrew the tender for C&D waste management in the city following a request from the ULB department for clarification about the participation of a company under investigation. The ULB department had previously asked the MCG to explain its failure to disclose crucial information about the firm that submitted the lowest bid for the C&D waste tender.
