Manesar Civic Body Cracks Down on Solid Waste Management Violations

Estimated read time 2 min read

Manesar, July 5, 2024 – The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has intensified its efforts to enforce solid waste management regulations, launching a campaign to clear solid waste from roadsides and vacant plots in the industrial township. The civic body is taking stringent actions against societies, industries, and individuals who fail to comply with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

Recent Actions and Penalties

MCM Commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg announced that strict measures are being implemented to ensure compliance with waste management protocols. Recently, MCM issued a ₹1.20 lakh challan to Rosalia Society in Sector 95 for failing to manage its garbage scientifically. According to the rules, bulk waste generators must handle their own waste disposal.

“While issuing the challan, MCM officials have instructed the society management to dispose of the garbage properly as per the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016,” Garg said.

In addition to this, MCM teams issued ₹50,000 challans to four societies during the inspection of their sewage treatment plants (STPs). These societies include Vatika Enviro Society in Sector 82, Vardhman Flora Society in Sector 90, GLS Avenue Society in Sector 92, and ROF Ananda Society in Sector 95. Two tankers were also fined ₹5,000 each for illegally dumping dirty STP water in open areas.

Sanitation and Cleaning Efforts

The MCM commissioner has directed the assistant executive engineers to submit reports related to sanitation and cleaning work twice a week. To enhance waste management, composting pits will be established in all parks within the IMT area, facilitating the production of compost from horticultural waste for park use.

“The MCM is also considering setting up a methane gas plant, which will be prepared from solid waste with financial assistance from CSR funds,” Garg added, highlighting future plans to improve waste management infrastructure.

Community Reactions and Compliance

Residents and community leaders have generally welcomed these stringent measures. However, consistent enforcement and follow-through will be critical to maintaining compliance and ensuring a cleaner environment.
