Mumbai, : Jun 15, 2024 — In a joint press conference on Saturday, leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) expressed their gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for their overwhelming support in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The MVA, an alliance comprising the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray, and Congress, hinted at continuing their collaboration in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls.

Victory in Lok Sabha Polls: A Prelude to Assembly Success?

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray addressed the press, highlighting the significance of their recent electoral victory. Thackeray, confident in the alliance’s future prospects, stated, “Lok Sabha poll victory for Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is not the end, it is the beginning.” He emphasized that the success in the Lok Sabha polls was a stepping stone towards a likely triumph in the state assembly elections.

Responding to comments from the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who likened the MVA alliance to the three legs of a rickshaw, Thackeray retorted, “… Devendra Fadnavis told us that our government is like the three legs of a rickshaw, the condition of the BJP government at the centre is also the same… This was a fight to save the Constitution and democracy. (Maharashtra) Assembly elections are coming shortly. Earlier, it was the Modi government, and now it has become the NDA government. Now it is to be seen how long this government will last.”

Sharad Pawar’s Jibe at PM Modi

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar took the opportunity to take a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that the Prime Minister’s campaign efforts inadvertently boosted MVA’s success. “Wherever the Prime Minister’s roadshow and rally took place, we won. That is why I consider it my duty to thank the Prime Minister,” Pawar quipped, highlighting the victories of MVA candidates in areas where Modi held rallies.

Congress’s Hope for Continued Support

Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan also expressed optimism about the assembly polls, stating, “… The people of Maharashtra have made the MVA candidates victorious… I hope that the way people voted for us in the Lok Sabha elections, we will get the same love in the assembly elections and now there will be a change of power in Maharashtra.”

A Stellar Performance in the Lok Sabha Elections

The MVA alliance demonstrated a remarkable performance in Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha elections, securing 31 out of 48 seats. Congress emerged as the leading party within the alliance with 13 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with nine seats, and NCP (SP) with eight seats.

Looking Ahead to the Assembly Elections

The joint press conference not only celebrated the Lok Sabha victory but also set the tone for the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. With the alliance leaders expressing a unified front and confidence in continued voter support, the political landscape in Maharashtra appears poised for significant developments.
