Lok Sabha Speaker Position Crucial in Unstable Government: Sanjay Raut

Estimated read time 2 min read

New Delhi – Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has highlighted the significance of the upcoming battle for the Lok Sabha Speaker position, noting that the current political landscape is different from 2014 and 2019. Raut emphasized that the government is not stable and mentioned that N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his desire for the Speaker’s role.

Support for TDP from INDI Alliance

Raut stated that the position of Lok Sabha Speaker should go to a leader from the NDA alliance. However, he warned that if the NDA fails to secure this position, the INDI alliance will support the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate. “If Chandrababu Naidu does not get the Speaker position, we will ensure that his candidate receives the backing of the INDI alliance,” Raut asserted.

Potential Political Shifts

Raut also hinted at possible political maneuvering, suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah might attempt to sway parties like TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas). The media reports have indicated that if the Deputy Speaker position is not granted to the opposition alliance, they may announce their own candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker role. Notably, the Deputy Speaker position remained vacant during the 17th Lok Sabha.

Upcoming Lok Sabha Session

The first session of the Lok Sabha will commence on June 24 and conclude on July 3. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to address a joint session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on June 27. The recently concluded general elections saw the BJP winning 240 seats, falling 32 short of the majority mark of 272. This situation has positioned TDP (16 seats) and JD(U) (12 seats) as potential kingmakers. TDP has already staked its claim for the Lok Sabha Speaker position.

Demand for Speaker Position

The Aam Aadmi Party and other opposition alliance members have also demanded that the Lok Sabha Speaker position be given to either JD(U) or TDP. The outcome of this political tussle will be closely watched as it could significantly impact the stability and functioning of the current government.
