Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Lash Delhi, Temperature Drops

New Delhi, India – The capital city experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday, bringing a significant drop in temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 27.4 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36.0 degrees Celsius. The rain, which lashed various parts of Delhi, is predicted to continue with generally cloudy skies and very light to light rainfall accompanied by strong surface winds ranging from 25 to 35 km per hour till Monday.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 62, which is considered satisfactory, according to the Centre for Pollution Control Board. The Delhi Regional Met Centre announced on X at 6:25 pm, “Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at NCR (Ghaziabad). Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places of Delhi.”

The IMD’s daily press bulletin indicated that Delhi has received isolated rainfall until 8:30 am on Sunday. The forecast suggests that heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places across several regions including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Konkan and Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on August 8.

Himachal Pradesh Faces Severe Weather Challenges

Himachal Pradesh has been severely affected by heavy rain over the past five days, leading to cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides. As a result, 87 roads are currently closed, reported news agency PTI. A yellow alert for heavy showers, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated places has been issued in Himachal Pradesh until August 8.

Rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh have caused significant disruptions, including the closure of 41 transformers and 66 water supply schemes. Since June 27, rain-related incidents have claimed 79 lives and caused losses amounting to ₹663 crore.
