Gurugram, Haryana: In a significant move to enhance public transportation in Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Service (GMCBL) extended its bus route number 135B by nearly five kilometers on Sunday. The newly extended route now connects Dhorka village to the Iffco Chowk metro station, offering residents an alternative to private vehicles, cabs, and shared autos.
The inaugural trip of the extended route began from Sare Homes in Sector 92, with a large turnout of residents marking the event. Anup Yadav, the bus operator, highlighted that the route extension is expected to reduce travel time and improve connectivity to key city centers. “The bus takes around 1.5 hours to cover the distance from Dhorka to Iffco Chowk Metro station, with buses available almost every hour. The fare ranges from ₹10 to ₹35,” Yadav said, noting that the first bus would depart from Dhorka at 7:45 AM.
According to GMCBL officials, two buses, each with a seating capacity of 36, have been deployed on this route. Each bus will complete eight trips daily, ensuring regular service for commuters. Previously, the bus route only covered the stretch between Iffco Chowk and Sector 91. The extension now includes areas from Sector 92 through NH48, stopping at Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and finally, Iffco Chowk Metro station.
Residents expressed satisfaction with the route extension. Pravin Malik, President of Sare Home RWA in Sector 92, noted that the extension resulted from consistent lobbying with GMCBL management since June. “We are happy that the route has been extended. It will benefit residents of around nine to ten condominiums and three villages, including Dhorka, Mevka, and Wazirpur,” he said.
The area had previously seen bus services discontinued due to low ridership, but the population has significantly increased in the last two years. Malik expressed confidence that more buses would soon be added to the route.
A senior GMCBL official confirmed that efforts are ongoing to expand bus services across the city, with plans to introduce more buses in the coming months. Additionally, there are discussions about connecting bus services between sectors along the Dwarka expressway and Sector 21 metro station in Dwarka.
Just last Sunday, a new bus route between Sector 99 and Millennium City metro bus station was also launched, further enhancing regional connectivity.
