Gurugram Police and GMDA Bust Illegal Parking Lot on Green Belt Land in Sector 18, Two Arrested

Gurugram, August 9, 2024:
In a joint operation, the Gurugram police and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) raided an illegal car parking lot being operated on GMDA’s green belt land in Sector 18. The operators were illegally charging Rs 50 per vehicle, exploiting the public space without authorization. The authorities registered an FIR at the Sector 18 police station and apprehended two parking workers from the spot.

The raid was conducted following a complaint by GMDA XEN Jogiram, who reported that the illegal parking lot was being run in front of the Springboard Business Hub in Sector 18. The operators had occupied the GMDA green belt land and were unlawfully collecting parking fees from vehicle owners. During the raid on Thursday, the joint team found 110 cars parked in the illegal lot.

Two workers, Raman and Praveen, were caught red-handed collecting parking fees. When asked to produce the necessary documents to legitimize the parking operation, they failed to provide any. The accused were even issuing printed parking slips and charging Rs 50 per car, according to Jogiram.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the law at the Sector 18 police station against the illegal parking owners and workers. Both workers were arrested at the scene.

Inspector Surender Kumar, SHO of Sector 18 police station, revealed that during questioning, the arrested workers identified the parking lot owners as Virender from Hisar and Sonu from Jind. A mobile phone used for collecting parking fees through UPI and Rs 630 in cash were recovered from the accused. The police are actively conducting raids to apprehend the illegal parking operators.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the Gurugram authorities to curb illegal activities and ensure that public spaces are not misused for unauthorized commercial purposes.
