Gurugram Residents Face Fines and Water Cuts for Violations

Gurugram, July 25, 2024 – Amidst a rising water crisis, the administration in Gurugram has implemented serious restrictions on water usage for residents. The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) announced new guidelines aimed at preventing water wastage during the current shortage.

Key Guidelines:

  • Car Washing Ban: The washing of cars in the city has been banned. Residents found washing their vehicles or courtyards with potable water between 5 am and 9 am will face a penalty of Rs 5000.
  • Penalties for Non-Compliance: Continued violations of this order will result in the disconnection of water supply and an additional fine of Rs 5000.
  • Restoration Fees: To restore the water supply, residents will need to pay a fee of Rs 5000 and reconnection charges of Rs 1000.

The decision was taken by the MCG in response to directives from urban local bodies to curb water wastage during peak supply hours. MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Banger highlighted that rampant violations, such as installing motors and pumps directly on the supply line, have significantly reduced water pressure in the area.

Community Reaction: Residents have expressed a mix of frustration and understanding towards the new measures. While some see the restrictions as necessary to address the water crisis, others are concerned about the impact on daily routines and the enforcement of penalties.

The municipal officers are actively engaging with the community to explain the new guidelines and ensure compliance. The administration urges residents to cooperate and use water judiciously to mitigate the crisis.
