In a significant breakthrough, Gurgaon Police have arrested four members of the infamous Bagariya gang, notorious for their involvement in at least 10 burglaries and thefts across Delhi-NCR and several other states. The gang, known for its cunning tactics, has been a major challenge for law enforcement agencies, with its members wanted in multiple cases of burglary and theft.

Modus Operandi:

The Bagariya gang operated with a unique strategy, staking out neighborhoods in the guise of beggars and scrap dealers. They carefully observed potential targets, identifying houses that appeared vulnerable to break-ins. Once a neighborhood was selected, the gang would set up a temporary camp nearby, often hiring a woman to cook for them to create the impression of a family living along the roadside.

When they spotted a family leaving their home, the gang would break into the house using screwdrivers and iron rods. Two members would stand guard at the entrance while the others ransacked the house, collecting cash and jewelry. The stolen items were then sold to a jeweler named Pannalal in Rajasthan.

Arrests and Investigation:

The Gurgaon Police began investigating the gang after a resident reported the theft of cash and jewelry from a house in DLF-3 in June. Inspector Sandeep Kumar of the DLF-4 station’s crime branch led the investigation, which culminated in the arrest of four gang members from Leisure Valley Park on August 9.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vinod (31), the gang leader from Ajmer, Babulal (23) and Mangal, also from Ajmer, and Bunty (43) from Aligarh. Following their arrest, the gang members led the police to Pannalal (55), a jeweler from Kekri village in Rajasthan, who was arrested on August 12.

Inspector Kumar revealed that the gang members admitted to committing burglaries in at least eight locations in Gurgaon and two in Delhi. The gang’s operations were not limited to Delhi-NCR; they are wanted in numerous cases across Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and other states.

Gang’s Operations and Evasion Tactics:

The Bagariya gang was adept at evading law enforcement by constantly moving from one town to another every 15-20 days. “After each theft, the gang would move to a new location to avoid suspicion,” Inspector Kumar explained. The gang members are habitual offenders, with a history of previous incarcerations.

During the arrest, police recovered two screwdrivers and two iron rods, the tools used by the gang to break into houses. The arrested individuals were produced before a court and taken into custody in the DLF-3 case, registered under sections 380 (theft), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

Ongoing Investigation:

The police are continuing their investigation to identify other potential accomplices and recover the stolen items. The arrest of the Bagariya gang members marks a significant step in curbing the rise of burglaries in the region and serves as a warning to other criminal elements operating in the area.
