Gurgaon — With air quality sliding into the “poor” category, the district administration has ordered daily mechanised road-sprinkling, mandatory anti-smog guns at large construction sites, and surprise checks to curb open burning. Officials warned that calm winds and a lowering mixing height could push the city into “very poor” early next week.

Under GRAP norms, construction debris must be covered, trucks tarpaulin-sealed, and wheel-wash pits kept operational. Municipal teams said night inspections will target garbage burning and material loading on inner roads. Doctors advised seniors, children and those with asthma to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during early morning and late evening peaks. Brief relief is possible if a light drizzle reaches NCR, but authorities cautioned residents to expect intermittent spikes as crop-residue smoke drifts in.

Citizen groups welcomed the drive but demanded consistent enforcement after dark when violations are rife. Experts say transport emissions and construction dust will dominate local PM2.5, with regional stubble smoke causing episodic surges.
