Gurgaon, 10 July 2024 – In a dramatic turn of events, a man who had reported his neighbor’s murder three years ago has been found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Panipat court. The court’s decision was based on compelling witness testimonies and forensic evidence that revealed the true nature of the incident.

On April 26, 2021, Pintu approached the police, claiming he had witnessed 4-5 men killing his neighbor, Rana, with knives and a screwdriver near the railway tracks in Panipat. Pintu’s report led to an FIR being registered under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act against unknown persons.

However, during the trial, the testimonies of two key witnesses, Vicky and Sagar, who had actually seen the murder, turned the case around. They testified that Pintu himself had attacked Rana on the night of April 25, suspecting him of having an “evil eye on his wife.” Pintu had lured Rana to a deserted ground near the railway tracks and attacked him with a knife. Rana succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Rahul Arora explained that Pintu tried to mislead the police by reporting the murder and implicating unknown assailants. He even called Rana’s brother and took him to the hospital, where Rana was declared dead on arrival.

The prosecution presented strong evidence, including the statements of Vicky and Sagar, who had accompanied Rana on the night of the murder and were injured while trying to stop the attack. Their testimonies were crucial in lifting the veil off the mystery surrounding Rana’s death. After their statements were recorded, Pintu was arrested on May 1, 2021.

Dinesh Garg, who represented Pintu in court, argued that the witnesses were not independent and were motivated by their friendship with Rana. However, the court relied on their statements, medical evidence, and forensic findings to convict Pintu. The court also referenced several legal precedents focusing on the “integrity of direct evidence.”

On Thursday, Sessions Judge Sudesh Kumar Sharma found Pintu guilty of Rana’s murder. The verdict was based on “substantiated evidence, corroborated by forensic findings and corroborative witness testimonies.” Pintu was handed a life term and fined Rs 25,000.

This case highlights the importance of thorough investigations and the role of credible witnesses in uncovering the truth, ensuring that justice is served.
