GMDA to Construct Master Sewerage Network in Gurugram’s Developing Sectors

Estimated read time 2 min read

Gurugram – In a bid to manage the sewage water in the rapidly developing sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has floated a tender worth ₹41 crore for the construction of a master sewerage network spanning sectors 99 to 115. This significant infrastructure project is expected to address long-standing sewage management issues in the area.

Project Details

The GMDA will lay a 23-kilometre-long master pipeline, connecting it with the internal sewage networks of these sectors. Additionally, a 100 MLD (million liters per day) sewage treatment plant (STP) will be constructed in Sector 107, linked to the master sewage pipeline. The estimated cost for the master pipeline construction is ₹41.62 crore, and the project is anticipated to be completed within two years. Furthermore, two STPs with a combined capacity of 200 MLD will be built in Sector 107, funded by an approved amount of ₹500 crore.

Addressing Sewage Management Challenges

The discharge from water supply in sectors 81 to 115 is estimated to be 384 MLD. Pravin Kumar, GMDA executive engineer, emphasized that the new sewage pipeline network will resolve the issues of managing sewage overflow and disposal. “The problem of managing sewage, overflow and disposing the sewage will be resolved through this pipeline network. The authority will also build a sewage treatment plant in Sector 107 which will be connected to the master network,” he said.

Resident Concerns and Expectations

Local residents have long struggled with sewage disposal issues, often resorting to using tractors to dispose of sewage in open areas. Pravin Malik, president of Sare Homes (Sector 92) RWA, expressed the urgency of executing the master sewage network. He stressed the importance of connecting the internal sewage network, previously laid by HSVP, to the main network to ensure effective waste and recycled water collection from condominiums.

“The sewage network should be able to collect waste and recycled water from condominiums, which is now being disposed in open areas. A number of land-related bottlenecks must also be resolved,” Malik added.

Future Implications

The construction of the master sewerage network represents a significant step towards sustainable urban development in Gurugram’s rapidly expanding sectors. Once completed, the project is expected to vastly improve sewage management, contributing to better sanitation and living conditions for residents.
