GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s (GMDA) Residents Advisory Council (RAC) is set to convene its eighth meeting on Monday to address ongoing infrastructure projects and pressing community issues. The agenda includes critical topics such as the repair of service lanes, construction of flyovers, and the enhancement of public amenities.
Key Infrastructure Projects
Among the prominent projects to be discussed are:
- Repair of Service Lane: The service lane from Paras Hospital towards Sector 56 is in dire need of repair. This issue, raised by Praveen Yadav, president of Ardee City RWA and RAC member, aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and better road conditions for residents.
- Flyover Construction: The construction of flyovers at strategic traffic signals, including Ardee Mall, Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity Park, and Rajesh Pilot Chowk, will be a major focus. These projects are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across the city.
Resident Concerns
The RAC meeting will also address various concerns raised by residents:
- Encroachment of Green Belts: The encroachment of green belts has been a persistent issue, affecting the city’s environmental health and aesthetics.
- Footpath Construction: Ensuring pedestrian safety and accessibility is a priority. Proposals include the construction of footpaths in key areas to provide adequate walking space for residents.
Additional Proposals
Several members have submitted proposals for consideration:
- Metro Network Expansion: Udaibir Yadav has advocated for the development of a Metro network to service old Gurugram, alongside an elevated road from Hero Honda Chowk or Eklvya Chowk to Basai, aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing traffic woes.
- Footpath and Access Improvements: Harsh Vinayak has emphasized the need for footpaths and better access to Chakkarpur Bandh, ensuring safe and convenient routes for pedestrians.
- Sector-Specific Issues: Sudakshina Laha has highlighted significant problems affecting more than 2,000 residents, including issues related to the Dharam Marg Sector 57 road and water supply challenges in Sectors 57, 56, Sushant Lok 2, and Sushant Lok 3.
The Role of RAC
Established under the GMDA Act, 2017, the RAC functions as an advisory body, guiding the authority’s operations and monitoring the implementation of annual plans related to infrastructure development, mobility management, and sustainable urban management. The council comprises key officials, including the deputy commissioner and MCG commissioner, along with representatives from civil society, industry, business, and residents’ welfare associations.
Community Engagement
The meeting underscores the importance of community engagement in urban development. By addressing the concerns of local residents and incorporating their feedback into planning processes, the GMDA aims to create a more responsive and effective governance model.
