Gurugram (Sarhind Times) – August 10, 2024
In a landmark judgment, the Gurugram court has sentenced four individuals to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in a shootout with the police three years ago. The convicted, Amit from Bikaner, Sunil Kumar from Charkhi Dadri, Sandeep from Hanumangarh, and Shri Bhagwan from Rohtak, were found guilty of attempting a robbery and firing at police officers in January 2021.
The Additional Sessions Judge, Tarun Singhal, delivered the verdict, finding the accused guilty of multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault on public servants, and illegal possession of firearms. The court also imposed a fine of ₹11,000 on each of the convicts.
The incident occurred when a Crime Branch team, led by Sector 39 Crime Branch In-charge Rajkumar, received a tip-off about armed criminals from Rajasthan and Punjab planning a robbery in Gurugram. The police intercepted the suspects’ Scorpio near Rajiv Chowk, leading to a high-speed chase.
As the police closed in, the suspects opened fire, injuring two police officers. The police retaliated, leading to the suspects’ vehicle crashing near Rithoj Mode, Bhondsi. A gunfight ensued, during which two of the suspects and two police officers sustained gunshot injuries. The police apprehended the suspects and took them into judicial custody.
The court’s decision marks the end of a prolonged legal battle and sends a strong message against criminal activities in the region. The police, praised for their bravery and quick action, have ensured that justice has been served.
