Pune, India – In a startling development, the parents of trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar have found themselves in legal trouble after a video showing her mother, Manorama Khedkar, threatening a group of men with a gun went viral. The Pune Rural Police have registered an FIR against Manorama Khedkar, her husband Dilip Khedkar, and five others based on a complaint by a local farmer.

The incident, which has sparked widespread attention, was captured in a two-minute video that shows Manorama Khedkar, accompanied by security guards, engaged in a heated argument with neighbors over a land dispute. Manorama can be seen brandishing a pistol and threatening a man, escalating tensions in the village of Dhadwali in Pune’s Mulshi tehsil.

Complaint and FIR Details

The FIR was registered on Friday night at the Paud police station under sections 323, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with additional charges under the Arms Act. Senior Police Inspector Manoj Yadav confirmed the registration, stating that the complaint was filed by a farmer named Kuldeep Pasalkar. Pasalkar alleged that Manorama Khedkar was attempting to forcibly usurp his land and had been threatening other farmers in the area as well.

Land Dispute Background

The conflict revolves around a parcel of land purchased by Dilip Khedkar, a retired Maharashtra government officer. Locals have accused the Khedkars of encroaching on the neighboring farmers’ land, leading to the confrontation depicted in the video. The footage shows Manorama Khedkar aggressively waving a gun in the face of a man before concealing it, an act that has intensified the controversy surrounding the Khedkar family.

Police Investigation

In response to the viral video, the Pune Rural Police have stated that they are taking cognizance of the incident and will begin a probe to ascertain the facts. A key focus of the investigation will be to determine whether Manorama Khedkar possesses a valid license for the firearm.

Further Complications for Puja Khedkar

This incident adds to the woes of Puja Khedkar, a 2023-batch IAS officer in Maharashtra, who is already embroiled in controversies over her UPSC candidature. Khedkar is accused of falsely claiming OBC non-creamy layer status and disabilities to secure her position. The Union government has constituted a single-member committee to investigate her claims and is expected to submit its report in two weeks.

The unfolding events have placed significant scrutiny on the Khedkar family, raising questions about the misuse of power and legal compliance. As the investigation progresses, the authorities aim to uncover the full extent of the incident and address the grievances of the local farmers.
