Patients arriving at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Saturday were met with banners stating that the out-patient department (OPD) was suspended for the day, as doctors protested the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Similar scenes played out across government and private hospitals in Delhi, where medical professionals have been protesting for the past week.

The protests, which initially involved healthcare workers, have now expanded to include private hospitals after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) called for a nationwide halt to non-essential services. Patients visiting the OPD for non-emergency services were turned away, highlighting the widespread impact of the protests.

Doctors emphasized that their demands are necessary, stressing the lack of legal protection and safety for medical professionals in the country. The strike is expected to continue as doctors demand action to ensure their safety and dignity.
