Metro Trials Set to Begin Soon; Magenta Line Extension to Enhance Connectivity

New Delhi — The construction of the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram metro corridor, part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-4, is nearing completion. Preparations for trial runs on this segment are underway, marking significant progress in Delhi’s metro network expansion.

Key Developments

Krishna Park Extension Station:
The construction of the Krishna Park Extension station is almost complete. The tunnel for this corridor was finished in November 2022. Currently, work on metro tracks, electrification, and station construction is nearly finished.

Magenta Line Extension:
This corridor extends the Magenta Line, directly connecting Botanical Garden to Krishna Park Extension. With necessary approvals from the Metro Railway Safety Commissioner, metro services are expected to start by August. The infrastructure for this corridor is complete, and metro trials will begin soon. Due to the short length of the corridor, the trials are expected to conclude quickly.

Expanded Network:
The opening of this corridor will extend the Magenta Line from 37.46 kilometers to approximately 40 kilometers, increasing the number of stations from 25 to 26.

Upcoming Trials and Approvals

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), trials on this corridor will commence soon. The commencement of metro operations will follow approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The construction work for the entire corridor is progressing rapidly, with 54% of the work completed so far.

Full Corridor Completion by 2026

The Janakpuri West to RK Ashram corridor is expected to be fully operational by 2026. This corridor will feature a total of 22 stations, including eight interchange stations: Janakpuri West, Peeragarhi, Pitampura, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, and RK Ashram Marg. Upon completion, Azadpur will become a triple interchange station, connecting the Yellow and Pink Lines with this new corridor.

Ongoing Construction

Currently, Delhi Metro is constructing three major corridors:

  1. Janakpuri West to RK Ashram
  2. Majlis Park to Maujpur
  3. Airport to Tughlakabad (Golden Line)

The 12.3-kilometer Majlis Park to Maujpur corridor is expected to be ready by the end of 2025, while the Airport to Tughlakabad corridor is anticipated to be completed by 2026.
