Delhi Hospitals Prepare for Dengue and Malaria Surge, CMO to Oversee Cleanliness

With the onset of the monsoon season, mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria have begun to rise in Delhi. To tackle this, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has appointed a nodal officer in each of its hospitals to ensure readiness for dengue patients. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in charge has been assigned the responsibility of monitoring cleanliness within hospital premises to prevent mosquito breeding.

Bed Reservations and Cleanliness Drive

To handle the influx of patients, Hindu Rao Hospital has reserved 70 beds, Kasturba Hospital has reserved 75 beds, and Swami Dayanand Hospital has reserved 22 beds specifically for dengue and malaria patients. These hospitals have been designated as sentinel hospitals by the MCD, equipped with an adequate number of mosquito nets for patients. Additionally, banners have been placed around hospital premises to raise awareness about mosquito prevention.

Monitoring and Supplies

Hospital administrations have been directed to maintain cleanliness and ensure that no stagnant water or waste accumulates in and around the hospital premises. Regular inspections are being conducted to ensure that there are no mosquito breeding sites within the hospitals. The MCD has also ensured that all hospitals and health centers have sufficient diagnostic kits for malaria and dengue, along with necessary medications and IV fluids. Blood bank facilities are available 24/7 to ensure there are no issues in obtaining blood for patients in need.

Public Appeal

The Health Department has appealed to the residents of Delhi to avoid accumulating junk and stagnant water around their homes. They have advised wearing long-sleeved clothing in the mornings and evenings to prevent mosquito bites. In case of fever, residents are urged to visit hospitals without delay. The MCD assures that there are adequate arrangements in place for patients at their hospitals.
