New Delhi – The residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced a welcome respite from the heat as light to moderate rainfall lashed parts of the area in the early hours of Saturday, July 13. The rain, which began around 5 am, brought much-needed relief to the national capital and neighboring Noida.

Visuals from Delhi’s Janpath showed moderate rainfall, while local weather agencies predict that the region will continue to see cloudy skies and light thunderstorms over the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that light to moderate rains will persist in Delhi and Noida until July 17.

Weather Forecast and Alerts

In response to the rainfall, Noida authorities issued an alert for residents living in low-lying areas, advising them to relocate to higher ground due to the expected rise in the water levels of the Yamuna River. This precaution comes after similar conditions last year led to heavy flooding in parts of Delhi NCR.

Although the IMD has issued a rainfall alert, it has not released a color-coded warning for the city over the weekend. The rain is expected to remain light and patchy, providing a temporary relief from the heat without causing major disruptions.

Temperature and Air Quality

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday was recorded at 34.3 degrees Celsius, slightly below the normal range, while the minimum temperature stood at 29.6 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above normal. For Saturday, the IMD predicts that the maximum temperature will hover around 34 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of approximately 26 degrees Celsius.

Delhi’s air quality is expected to remain in the ‘moderate’ category throughout the weekend, providing relatively better breathing conditions for the residents.

Impact on Daily Life

The rainfall has brought a refreshing change to the weather in Delhi NCR, with wet streets and cooler temperatures offering relief from the intense summer heat. The early morning showers have been welcomed by many, and the forecast of continued rain until July 17 has been met with optimism, particularly for those who had been enduring the sweltering heat.

The authorities have advised citizens to stay cautious and avoid low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Residents are also encouraged to follow weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the rainy period.
