CBI Advances in Excise Policy Case: Investigation Continues for Delhi CM Kejriwal

Estimated read time 3 min read

New Delhi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced the completion of its investigation into the roles of all accused individuals in the excise policy case, except for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The update was provided by CBI counsel Advocate DP Singh, who highlighted that new developments post-June 4 have necessitated further investigation into Kejriwal’s involvement.

Ongoing Investigation

The CBI is intensifying its focus on Kejriwal, while the investigation against other accused individuals is nearly concluded. This follows statements made by the Solicitor General, which pertained to all arrested accused except Kejriwal. On June 4, the Supreme Court acknowledged the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s assurance that the investigation would be wrapped up, with a final complaint and charge sheet filed by July 3, 2024. The Court’s order noted that the trial court could commence the trial post-charge sheet filing.

Legal Proceedings

Despite assurances, counsels for Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha have raised objections, accusing the CBI of misrepresenting the investigation status. Sisodia’s counsel pointed out a judicial order from March 22 that indicated the investigation was complete. “CBI wrongly stated before the Court that the investigation is complete. Today, the situation is that the status report filed is contrary,” Sisodia’s counsel remarked.

On Saturday, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended the judicial custody of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and other accused until July 15, 2024. The Court also permitted Sisodia to sign documents related to his constituency’s development using MLA funds and to sign bank checks for his family’s expenditures.

Kavitha Case and Further Developments

The Court deferred its hearing on taking cognizance of the third supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI against BRS Leader K Kavitha. The matter has been set for July 8, 2024, following issues with incorrect pagination on some pages of the charge sheet.

The investigation and legal proceedings underscore the complexities surrounding the excise policy case and the involvement of high-profile politicians. The progress of the investigation and subsequent court decisions are being closely monitored by all parties involved.

Community and Political Reactions

The ongoing probe and its implications have stirred significant reactions across political circles and the community. Supporters of Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) maintain that the investigation is politically motivated, while opponents insist on thorough accountability and justice.

Conclusion

As the CBI continues its investigation into Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s role, the nation watches closely. The outcome of this high-stakes case will have far-reaching implications for the political landscape in Delhi and beyond.
