Amit Shah to Address State-Level Backward Classes Samman Sammelan in Mahendergarh as BJP Ramps Up Election Preparations

Estimated read time 3 min read

Mahendergarh: With the Haryana assembly elections on the horizon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is intensifying its campaign efforts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Mahendergarh on Tuesday for the state-level Backward Classes Samman Sammelan, marking his second visit to the state in less than three weeks. This strategic move is aimed at consolidating the support of the backward classes (BCs), who make up approximately 27% of Haryana’s electorate.

Event Details and Significance

The Sammelan, where Shah will be the chief guest, is anticipated to be a significant event in the BJP’s election campaign. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other top BJP leaders will roll out the red carpet for the BCs. This initiative follows the CM’s recent announcement at the OBC Morcha Sarv Samaj Samrasta Sammelan in Gurugram, where the income limit for identifying persons in the “creamy layer” among the BCs was raised from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh.

Strategic Announcements Expected

Top BJP sources have hinted that major announcements beneficial to the BCs might be made during Tuesday’s event to further solidify the party’s position in the Yadav caste-dominated Ahirwal belt. Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli emphasized the importance of this function and the potential for impactful declarations.

BJP’s Focus on Non-Jat Voters

The BJP has historically focused on consolidating non-Jat votes in Haryana, a strategy that has helped them in previous elections. With the CM hailing from the BCs and the state BJP chief being a Brahmin, the party aims to present a united front to attract diverse voter groups. The BJP has also inducted three non-Jat MPs from Haryana as ministers in the NDA government, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity.

Shah’s 19-Point Poll Strategy

During a party workers’ meeting in Panchkula on June 29, Amit Shah outlined a 19-point poll strategy. This strategy focuses on consolidating the BJP’s position in 58 key assembly constituencies, particularly in the GT road belt and southern Haryana, where the party has performed well in the last two assembly elections. Additionally, efforts are being made to retain support in 44 assembly segments where the BJP led in the recent Lok Sabha election.

Booth-Level Focus and Corrective Measures

One of the key tasks assigned by Shah to state BJP leaders is identifying booths where the BJP candidates polled less than 50% of votes in the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party is taking corrective steps to address local issues that may have turned voters away in the 2024 parliamentary polls.

Renewed Campaign Efforts

Badoli stated that the identification of low-performing booths is in advanced stages. Following a wake-up call meeting held by Shah in Panchkula shortly after the Lok Sabha elections, the party is now fully mobilized. Tuesday’s event in southern Haryana is a crucial part of this renewed campaign effort to regain voter confidence and prepare for a strong performance in the upcoming assembly elections.
