Gurgaon, July 5, 2024 – After a four-day dry spell, Gurgaon experienced a much-needed respite from the heat as showers returned, bringing relief to residents. The city recorded 35mm of rainfall by 5:30 PM on Wednesday, resulting in a slight dip in the minimum temperature by 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, the maximum temperature remained above 35 degrees Celsius, maintaining a hot and humid atmosphere.

Weather Details and Forecast

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature on Wednesday was 27.5 degrees Celsius, down from Tuesday’s 29 degrees Celsius. Despite the rainfall, the maximum temperature reached 36 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous day’s 35.5 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels remained high at an uncomfortable 78%.

Since the onset of the monsoon on June 28, Gurgaon has recorded a total of 246mm of rainfall. Weather analysts predict patchy rain over the next few days, with the IMD forecasting light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning for Thursday. Although no severe weather warnings have been issued, residents are advised to stay cautious.

Impact and Precautions

The IMD has issued an advisory highlighting the potential for minor traffic disruptions, accidents, electricity outages, and partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds. Residents are urged to check for traffic congestion before traveling, follow traffic advisories, and avoid areas prone to waterlogging. The advisory also emphasizes staying indoors, closing windows and doors, and unplugging electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

“Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination. Follow any traffic advisories…. Avoid going to areas that face waterlogging often. Stay away from power lines or electrical wires. Stay indoors, close windows and doors and avoid travel if possible. Take safe shelters, do not shelter under trees. Do not lie on concrete floors and do not lean against concrete walls. Unplug electrical/electronic appliances. Keep away from objects that conduct electricity,” the IMD advised.

Upcoming Weather Conditions

For Thursday, the IMD expects maximum and minimum temperatures to be 34 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. A yellow alert has been issued for cloudy skies with light to moderate rain on Friday. Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman of meteorology and climate change at Skymet, indicated that patchy rain is likely over the next two days.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature dropped to 34.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels fluctuated between 100% and 73%, contributing to the overall discomfort despite the rainfall.

Conclusion

The return of rain has provided temporary relief to the residents of Gurgaon, but the high temperatures and humidity levels continue to pose challenges. The IMD’s forecast for continued patchy rain offers some hope for cooler weather in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this monsoon season.
