GMDA to Allocate ₹2,800 Crore for Infrastructure Development in Gurugram

Gurugram, July 5, 2024 – The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to allocate approximately ₹2,800 crore for a series of infrastructure projects aimed at significantly upgrading the city’s facilities. The proposed budget will be discussed at GMDA’s 13th meeting scheduled for July 10, chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh.

Key Infrastructure Projects

The agenda for the meeting includes several critical projects:

  1. Water and Sewage Treatment:
    • Sewage Treatment Plant in Sector 107: To be built in two phases at a cost of ₹500 crore.
    • Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Sector 34: Estimated to cost ₹107 crore.
    • Enhancing the Main Pumping Station at Dhanwapur: Proposed at ₹119 crore.
  2. Roads and Transportation:
    • Master Storm Water Drainage System: Planned from Sector 76 to Sector 80, costing ₹215 crore.
    • Construction of Two Key Flyovers: In Sector 51 and Sector 86, allocated ₹111 crore.
    • Six-Lane Road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk: A project undertaken by NHAI to ease traffic congestion.
  3. Public Transport:
    • Procurement of 200 E-Buses: With a budget of ₹69.66 crore to enhance the city’s public transportation system.
  4. Technological Upgrades:
    • IT Project for Centralised Management: Covering water, sewage, rainwater, and materials management, allocated ₹48.60 crore.
    • Third Phase of the CCTV Project: Expanding surveillance across GMDA roads with an investment of ₹422 crore.
  5. Sports and Recreation:
    • Upgrading Tau Devi Lal Stadium: To an international sports venue capable of hosting night matches, with an investment of ₹634 crore.

NHAI Projects

In addition to the GMDA’s plans, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct a six-lane grade road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to alleviate congestion. A flyover will also be built to connect this road with the newly constructed flyover at Basai.

The NHAI has also set a target to complete the Gurugram-Rewari expressway by the end of December 2024. “We will expedite the work on this highway and try to complete it by the end of this year,” said Yogesh Tilak, project director, NHAI.
