New Delhi, July 3, 2024 — The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG), which was recently postponed, is now expected to be held in August, according to sources from the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The Board is awaiting “certain clearances” from the government before announcing the exact date.

Timeline and Examination Process

“We need to give the examinees at least four weeks’ time from the date of announcement of exams. So, it is likely that the exam may be held next month only,” NBE sources stated. The NBE, an autonomous body under the health ministry, is responsible for conducting the NEET-PG exams.

The government had abruptly postponed NEET-PG on June 22, following allegations of a paper leak in NEET-UG, the entrance test for undergraduate medical programs. The postponement was a precautionary measure to allow a thorough assessment of the examination processes for NEET-PG.

Candidate and Seat Information

This year, more than two lakh candidates have applied for NEET-PG, which will determine their eligibility for admission to nearly 70,000 postgraduate seats in government and private medical colleges across the country.

Enhanced Security Measures

In light of the recent issues with NEET-UG, the NBE plans to implement additional security measures to maintain the integrity of NEET-PG. “We plan to have more invigilators and central command centres to monitor the whole process,” an NBE source disclosed. These measures aim to ensure a fair and secure examination environment for all candidates.

Conclusion

The expected August date for NEET-PG comes as a relief to the numerous applicants eagerly awaiting the rescheduled examination. The enhanced security protocols being put in place by the NBE reflect the commitment to upholding the sanctity of the exam and ensuring a robust and transparent selection process for postgraduate medical courses.
