urgaon, July 2, 2024 — Nuh riot accused and cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi, who is currently out on bail, has been booked by Faridabad police for allegedly instigating communal violence. Bittu shared a post on social media using derogatory language against a community following an attack on a priest at his home late Friday night.
Incident Overview
The incident involved a priest named Ravi, who was grievously injured after some youths attacked him at his residence. Ravi’s wife, Pushpa, lodged a complaint at Saran police station, naming the attackers as Mahtab, Golu, Iqbal, and Sajid. According to Pushpa, the youths arrived at their house around 11:45 PM and engaged in an argument with the priest. During the altercation, Mahtab and Golu attacked Ravi with knives, inflicting severe injuries. Pushpa also sustained injuries while trying to protect her husband.
Attack and Immediate Aftermath
Before fleeing the scene, the assailants reportedly shouted religious slogans, heightening the tension. Pushpa’s alarm raised the attention of neighbors, who began to gather around the house, prompting the attackers to flee. Ravi was rushed to Fortis Escort Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the attack, Bittu Bajrangi called for a congregation near Janta Colony and people blocked Deep Singh Chowk in support of the priest. This act further aggravated the situation, leading to concerns about communal unrest.
Police Action and Investigation
Faridabad police swiftly acted against Bittu Bajrangi for attempting to instigate communal discord through his social media post. “Some people are trying to give this incident a religious colour by posting inflammatory content on social media. Police have registered a case and appealed to the public to refrain from sharing provocative posts online,” said police spokesperson Yashpal Singh.
The SHO of Saran police station commented, “The priest’s condition is now stable. We are looking for the accused. The attack appears to have been motivated by personal enmity. We will get to know the details only after the assailants are arrested.”
Call for Restraint
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and not share inflammatory or unverified information that could exacerbate the situation. Police teams have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any potential escalation.
The Faridabad police have reassured the community that the situation is under control and that thorough investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
