New Delhi, July 2, 2024 — The Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory for commuters traveling on NH-48 from Gurgaon towards Delhi, due to ongoing work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The advisory, which is expected to last for 3-4 days, comes amidst monsoon challenges that have already caused significant disruptions in the Delhi-NCR region.
Traffic Advisory Details
In an announcement posted on the microblogging site X, the Delhi Traffic Police stated, “Traffic will remain affected for 3-4 days on NH-48 in the carriageway from Gurugram towards Delhi as service road of NH-48 going from Shiv Murti towards Rangpuri has been closed due to ongoing work being carried out by NHAI. Commuters coming to Delhi via NH-48 are advised to plan their journey accordingly.”
The advisory is a result of the NHAI’s work on a 121-kilometer stretch of NH-48 between Dahisar and Achhad near the Gujarat border, which began more than six months ago in December 2023. The project involves topping the road surface and has necessitated the closure of one lane on either arm of the highway.
Monsoon Challenges in Delhi-NCR
The advisory comes at a time when the Delhi-NCR region is grappling with the effects of the monsoon season. Heavy rainfall has led to disruptions, including waterlogging and restricted traffic movement. On June 30, traffic at the Okhla Underpass was significantly affected due to severe waterlogging, further compounding the challenges faced by commuters.
Commuter Guidance and Precautions
Given the current situation, the Delhi Traffic Police are urging commuters to plan their journeys carefully. Those traveling from Gurgaon to Delhi via NH-48 should expect delays and consider alternative routes where possible. The closure of the service road from Shiv Murti to Rangpuri is expected to impact traffic flow significantly.
The Delhi Traffic Police have been actively updating the public through social media and other channels to ensure that commuters are aware of the ongoing disruptions and can make informed decisions about their travel plans.
Long-Term Infrastructure Improvements
The ongoing work by the NHAI is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure and road conditions on NH-48. While the immediate impact on traffic is significant, the long-term benefits are expected to include smoother and safer travel for commuters. The NHAI’s project aims to enhance the overall durability and quality of the highway, which is a critical route for travel between Gurgaon and Delhi.
As the Delhi-NCR region continues to face monsoon-related challenges, authorities are working diligently to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions. Commuters are advised to stay updated on traffic advisories and plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
