Weather Department Issues Heatwave and Storm Alerts for Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Weather Department has issued an advisory for Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh for the next six days, predicting severe heat followed by storms and light rainfall. In Haryana, extreme heat is expected to persist for the next two days, with changes anticipated after June 18.

Heatwave Red Alert

A red alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for the next three days in Haryana and Punjab. Additionally, yellow and orange alerts have been issued for several districts in Haryana. On Sunday, the Weather Department warned of extreme heat over the next three days, followed by relief in the form of thunderstorms and light rain.

Gurugram Weather Alerts

Specifically for Gurugram, a red alert for severe heat has been issued for June 16 and 17, with an orange alert for June 18. The advisory indicates that a severe heatwave will affect Gurugram on June 16 and 17. Relief from the heat is expected on June 18, although it will still be hot, with a slight reduction in the heatwave intensity.

Relief Expected

The Weather Department has forecasted that not only Gurugram but also Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh might experience thunderstorms and light rain between June 18 and June 21. This weather change is expected to provide relief from the intense heat.

Advisory for Public Safety

To protect against the severe heat, the Weather Department has issued several recommendations for the public. It is advised to avoid going out in the sun, drink plenty of water, wear loose and light-colored cotton clothing, and cover the head with a cloth or use an umbrella when outside.

Storm Safety Measures

From June 18 to 21, during the expected thunderstorms, the Weather Department advises people to avoid standing under trees, unplug electrical appliances, stay away from water bodies, and avoid using any electrically operated devices. Agricultural work should be halted during this period, and it is recommended to secure any items that could be blown away by strong winds.
