Gurgaon Govt Schools Introduce Revamped Mid-Day Meal Menu for Enhanced Nutrition

Gurgaon – When government school students from classes 1 to 8 return from their summer holidays, they will be greeted with a revised and more nutritious lunch menu as part of the mid-day meal programme. This significant update aims to provide a more balanced diet, reducing ragi and gram while increasing wheat and milk, and eliminating soya granules.

New Additions for a Balanced Diet

The revised menu, which introduces wholesome additions such as jaggery and missi parathas with curd, promises a fresh and nourishing dining experience for the students. The overhaul follows an order issued last week by the director general of elementary education’s mid-day meal superintendent officer. The new menu was initially rolled out for the new academic session on April 20 and served to children until the summer vacations began on May 28.

Implementation Across Gurgaon and Faridabad

The updated menu will also apply to the Iskcon Food Relief Foundation, which provides midday meals to students in government schools in Gurgaon and Faridabad. “The health and nutritional needs of growing children were carefully considered before deciding on the new menu,” said an official from the department. This led to the decision to increase the portions of wheat and milk in the students’ meals.

Detailed Menu Schedule

According to the new schedule, students will receive a special meal on the first Friday of each month, comprising curd with jaggery and missi parathas, replacing the previous halwa puri and black gram. On Wednesdays, the menu will feature rice and chickpea gravy, replacing the old soy puri and potato vegetables.

Age-Appropriate Nutrition

The menu changes, set to be implemented from July 1, will cater to different age groups, with distinct menus for students of classes 1 to 5 and those of classes 6 to 8. “This differentiation ensures that the nutritional requirements of children in different age groups are adequately met,” an official from the elementary education office explained.

This initiative underscores the department’s commitment to enhancing the nutritional intake of students, ensuring they receive a balanced diet crucial for their growth and development.
