Gurugram – In a proactive measure to safeguard residents from the consumption of contaminated water, the Health Department has launched a special water sampling campaign. So far, 113 water samples have been collected from various locations including hotels, restaurants, schools, and housing societies, out of which 8 have failed the quality test.

Increased Risk of Waterborne Diseases

Dr. Virender Yadav, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), stated that the risk of waterborne diseases is significantly higher during this period. Consuming contaminated water can lead to illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, cholera, and hepatitis. To prevent these diseases, water sampling is being conducted extensively. Of the 113 samples collected, 8 samples have failed, including water from two hotels, two housing society borewells, and four schools.

Sampling Process and Locations

The Health Department’s team has taken water samples from various sources including the GMDA’s boosting station, private and government schools, Haryana Roadways, RO water plants, housing societies, and colonies supplied by borewells. Soon, water samples from public places like the railway station, bus stand, and dharamshalas in Gurugram will also be collected and tested.

Warnings and Further Action

Dr. Yadav mentioned that locations where samples have failed have been issued warnings. If these locations fail the follow-up tests, the Health Department will take strict action. This initiative is crucial in ensuring the health and safety of the residents by preventing the spread of waterborne diseases.
