Hyderabad, India – Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy defended the recent demolition of the N-Convention Centre, co-owned by actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, citing the teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita as the moral basis for his government’s actions. The convention centre, located in Hyderabad’s Madhapur, was allegedly constructed on encroached land within the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the Tammidikunta lake.
Speaking at an event organized by the Hare Krishna Movement, CM Reddy emphasized that his government would not spare anyone who had encroached upon lakes, regardless of their influence. “The Bhagavad Gita is an inspiration to demolish illegal structures. Lord Krishna taught that for people’s welfare, one should follow Dharma to defeat Adharma, even if that means a battle,” Reddy remarked.
The demolition was carried out by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) agency, along with other government departments, as part of a larger effort to remove unauthorized structures from water bodies in the city. The CM noted that despite pressure from powerful individuals, the government is committed to upholding the law and protecting public resources.
“Since powerful people own these farmhouses, there is a lot of pressure, but this is a matter of the future. According to Lord Sri Krishna, Dharma must triumph and Adharma must be defeated,” Reddy added.
Actor Nagarjuna has since approached the Telangana High Court seeking a stay on the demolition. The court granted an interim stay, though the demolition had already been carried out earlier that day. In a post on X, Nagarjuna defended his position, stating that they had “not done any actions in violation of law” and that the demolition was “wrongfully based on misinformation.”
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, in coordination with GHMC, Town Planning, Irrigation, and Revenue departments, conducted the demolition as part of their campaign against illegal encroachments on water bodies. The official release from the government stated that the N-Convention Centre was built within the FTL/Buffer zone without any building permissions.
“After following due process, the officials completely demolished the unauthorized structures in Tammidikunta lake this morning. The Telangana High Court gave an interim stay in the afternoon,” the release added.
This incident has sparked significant controversy, raising questions about property rights, legal processes, and the influence of religious teachings on governance.
