New Delhi, India – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent decision to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), hailing it as a significant and thoughtful move. The decision, which directly benefits 23 lakh central government employees, was praised by BJP leaders as an example of the Prime Minister’s dedication to addressing issues faced by government workers.
Speaking on Sunday, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad emphasized the far-reaching impact of the UPS. He stated, “Modi government makes decisions with thoughtful consideration, avoiding temporary measures. Every decision made by it is in public interest. This particular decision will benefit 23 lakh government employees and their families.”
Prasad took the opportunity to criticize the Indian National Congress, accusing the opposition party of making unfulfilled promises regarding the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). He questioned the Congress party’s commitment and consistency, particularly targeting Rahul Gandhi. “Why did Congress promise the Old Pension Scheme when it was unable to implement it? Will Congress only continue to make promises, or will it also work to fulfil them?” Prasad asked.
He further added that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress did not include a promise to implement the OPS in its manifesto, nor did it make a clear statement about implementing OPS in Telangana. “What kind of approach is this from Congress party?” Prasad questioned, calling on Rahul Gandhi to be honest with the public and fulfill the promises made.
The BJP’s support for the UPS highlights the party’s ongoing commitment to central government employees, contrasting with what it describes as the Congress party’s pattern of making empty promises.
