New Delhi, Aug 20: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s initiative to bring in experts and specialists through the lateral entry scheme has sparked opposition from within its ranks, with ally Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) voicing strong concerns.
LJP chief Chirag Paswan, while addressing the media on Monday, denounced the lateral entry scheme introduced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), terming it as “completely wrong” because it circumvents the reservation system and denies backward classes opportunities for recruitment to top government positions. Paswan emphasized that his party would raise the issue with the Central government, advocating for the inclusion of reservation provisions in all government recruitments.
“My party believes that all government recruitments should include provisions for the reservation system. Since reservations are not available in the private sector, they should definitely be present in government sectors,” Paswan stated.
Paswan’s remarks reflect a broader discontent among opposition parties, with many accusing the BJP of attempting to sideline backward classes from government roles. The Congress and other INDIA bloc members have criticized the scheme, describing it as an “assault on social justice” and a covert move to position RSS-affiliated individuals in influential roles. Rahul Gandhi notably labeled it as the “privatization of IAS.”
The UPSC’s recent notification to fill 45 senior positions in various ministries through the lateral entry scheme has fueled this controversy. The government argues that the purpose of lateral entry is to bring in individuals with specialized knowledge and expertise, enabling more effective policy-making.
