Water Woes Continue in Sushant Lok-2 Despite Frequent Rains

GURGAON: Despite the city receiving rain almost every other day over the past month, the residents of Sushant Lok-2 are grappling with a severe water shortage, affecting around 1,000 families in the area. The worst-hit areas are A and A1 blocks, where residents have been struggling to manage their daily household chores due to the unreliable water supply.

On Sunday, residents expressed their frustration, revealing that they receive water supply just once a day, forcing them to rely on a tubewell to meet their needs. However, last week’s heavy rainfall caused a short-circuit in the tubewell’s motor, cutting off this critical backup supply. Although the motor was repaired by Friday, it has not been reinstalled, leaving the residents in dire straits. Despite repeated calls and messages to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), residents claim that their complaints have been ignored.

“GMDA’s water supply has been unreliable for weeks, but we managed with the tubewell and only got water once a day. Now, even that has failed us. It’s as if they are deliberately ignoring us. I have been calling and messaging since the problem began, but nothing has been done,” said Vinita Sinha, president of the Sushant Lok-2 Residents Welfare Association (RWA) for A and A1 blocks.

With no reliable supply, residents are now paying between Rs 800 to Rs 1,200 for private water tankers. “We are being forced to live without water. Even the quality of water from the tubewell is poor and poses a health risk. Now, even that is unavailable. Our colony is at the far end, and both GMDA and MCG are doing nothing to resolve the issue,” said Digvijay Singh, RWA vice-president.

The problems don’t end with water scarcity. “It’s not just the water supply — sewage is overflowing, roads are broken, and there is no permanent solution in sight,” added Naveen Sharma, another resident.

On Sunday, a GMDA official stated that there was no disruption in supply from their end, suggesting that the issue might be due to internal distribution problems. A senior MCG official confirmed that the motor was repaired and the electrical panel replaced. “Supply was restored by our team on Friday. But I will ask the officials to check the situation again,” the official said.
