Udaipur: Communal tensions flared in Udaipur on Friday after a violent altercation between two school students from different communities led to one stabbing the other. The incident, which occurred at 10:30 AM under the jurisdiction of Surajpole police station, escalated into broader unrest as right-wing groups called for a market shutdown. This was followed by a mob setting vehicles on fire and pelting stones in the city. Authorities have since imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144, banning the assembly of people, to maintain order.

The incident took place at a government school in the Bhatiyani Chauhatta area of Udaipur. According to police, a student attacked his classmate with a knife, inflicting serious injuries. The injured boy is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. The attacker fled the scene immediately after the incident but was later detained by the police.
Response from Authorities
In a video statement, Udaipur District Collector Arvind Poswal reassured the public that the situation was under control and that efforts were being made to restore peace. “The condition of the injured child is stable. Doctors are providing him with the best possible treatment. The city is peaceful now. The SP and I patrolled the city for an hour with police officers. Although two or three vehicles were set on fire, the police have not had to resort to lathi charge,” Poswal said. He urged residents not to pay attention to rumors and assured them that normalcy would be restored within a few hours.
Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena also addressed the media, emphasizing that the situation was under control. “It is unfortunate that a student was stabbed by another student. This is a serious offense, and we are working to control the situation. I have spoken with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and the situation in the city has been largely brought under control,” Meena said.
