Chandigarh, Haryana: The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) announced significant changes to the state’s electricity supply code on Sunday, aimed at streamlining the process of obtaining power connections, adhering to strict timelines, and enhancing transparency in billing. The new regulations are expected to make electricity services more efficient and accessible for consumers across Haryana.
According to the revised norms, consumers in metropolitan areas will now receive electricity connections within three days of submitting a complete application. Those in municipal areas will be connected within seven days, while the timeline for rural areas has been set at 15 days. These measures are designed to reduce delays and ensure prompt access to electricity services.
HERC Chairman Nand Lal Sharma emphasized that the commission has established clear time frames for the release of new connections or modifications to existing connections, especially when an extension of the distribution network is required. The timelines vary based on the voltage level, with the supply on the low tension (LT) network required to be released within 20 days following compliance with the demand notice. For connections on the transmission system above 33 KV, the timeline extends up to 142 days.
“The new regulations ensure that demand notices are issued promptly after the technical feasibility of the connection is assessed. This step is vital to maintaining the overall timeline and ensuring that the process proceeds without unnecessary delays,” a statement by HERC read.
In addition to streamlining connections, HERC has introduced the option for consumers to receive their electricity bills in either Hindi or English, based on their preference. This initiative aims to make billing more accessible, particularly for consumers who may face language barriers with the current system.
“These amendments will lead to a more efficient and responsive electricity distribution system in Haryana. The new regulations are part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to ensure that consumers receive reliable and timely service,” Sharma stated.
The changes introduced by HERC reflect the commission’s commitment to improving the state’s electricity infrastructure and ensuring that all consumers benefit from transparent and efficient services.
