Two Soldiers Martyred, Three Injured in Fierce Encounter with Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

Anantnag, August 11, 2024:
In a tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, two soldiers were killed, and three others sustained injuries during a fierce encounter with terrorists on Saturday. The encounter took place in the dense Ahlan Gagarmandu forest, located in the remote Kokernag area, following specific intelligence inputs.

A joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was launched after receiving credible information about the presence of terrorists in the region. As security forces advanced with a cordon and search operation, the terrorists, hiding in the forest, unleashed indiscriminate fire upon the approaching troops.

In the ensuing gunfight, five army personnel were wounded. Despite immediate evacuation to a nearby hospital, two soldiers succumbed to their injuries. The other three injured soldiers are receiving medical treatment and are reported to be stable.

Reinforcements have been dispatched to the area as the operation continues to track down and neutralize the remaining terrorists. The operation is ongoing, with security forces determined to eliminate the threat posed by the terrorists.

In addition to the military casualties, the Army confirmed that two civilians were injured due to “indiscriminate, desperate, and reckless firing by terrorists.” The injured civilians were provided immediate medical aid and have been evacuated for further treatment.

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared the initial update on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Based on specific intelligence input, a Joint Operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar today in general area Kokernag, Anantnag. Contact was established, and firefight ensued. Two personnel have been injured and evacuated from the area.”

As the operation progresses, the nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers and prays for the swift recovery of the injured. The security forces remain vigilant in their mission to restore peace and security in the region.
